Earning his keep

There are some really really good things that come with homeownership.  I love having a home of my own where I can do whatever I want when I want.  I can wash the dishes or leave them in the sink if I want.  I can pick my clothes up off the floor or leave them there for a couple of days. I can cook dinner or eat a bowl of cereal every night.  There are also some really really bad things with homeownership. When the air conditioner breaks I can’t call the landlord and tell him to come and fix it. When the lawns or as I like to call them the “pastures” need to get mowed, I don’t get to call the landlord or the landscaper.

So, a couple of weeks ago I told Thomas in order for him to earn his keep around Auntie’s house he was going to have to help me mow the lawn.  Lucky for me he has never mowed the lawn before so he thought it was quite fun.

That enjoyment lasted about 20 minutes and then he was DONE! He enjoyed mowing until he figured out that it actually was WORK.  I have two of the hugest yards on the block and it takes me 3 hours each weekend from start to finish to get them looking good.

I’m not sure what I was thinking when I purchased this house.  However, I am glad that Thomas is getting older and stronger and before long he is going to have even more energy and I will bribe him every weekend to help me!!!

Until then I think I’m on my own!
